Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois-based Platinum Technology Inc can’t diversify away from its mainframe software fast enough, and in its third Unix-related acquisition in as many weeks, it has plans to buy BrownStone Solutions Inc of New York for its enterprise-wide client-server repository and data warehouse technology, which does address mainframe as well as local network environments. Recognising that mainframe sites are not going to all go dark overnight, Platinum’s plan is to provide comprehensive integrated management for the Open Enterprise Environment, which it defines as a networked computing environment that include at least MVS-, Unix- and Windows-based systems and may also contain VMS, OS/400 and OS/2. BrownStone’s key product is the DataDictionary/Solution extensible repository and workbench and it will become part of a new Poems Platinum Open Enterprise Management System. Platinum’s other two acquisitions this year were ViaTech Development Inc, provider of electronic software distribution tools, and AutoSystems Corp, Unix job management tool supplier. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
