The Microsoft portion of the announcement, to be announced at its annual user group conference on Monday, starts with integration of PlanView’s online help resources with the text-based help that is already installed. And the help will be made available through SharePoint Portal.
The enhancement addresses two issues: first, that until now, web-based help, with its deeper resources, had to be accessed separately from the text-based help that is installed locally. Second, with the Planview installed base centered on Windows, SharePoint support has been demanded by customers.
Consequently, adding help is the first step in extending SharePoint support through the balance of the product. On the horizon, Planview intends to add SharePoint support to content management, dashboards, and analytics features of its project and portfolio management products.
This week, at BMC’s annual user conference, Planview announced an upgrade of its BMC alliance, which was first announced in June. Until now, Planview has had a relatively low-level integration with Remedy Service Desk, where the Remedy help desk representative has a checkbox for submitting the trouble ticket to Planview’s project management system, which in turn can generate a project plan that can be made visible to the Remedy Service Desk user.
Planview is now delivering the next element of the integration, focusing on the change management portion of the Remedy product. When a project becomes operational, the plan can be forwarded to Remedy Change management, which in turn can feed relevant aspects to BMC’s Atrium CMDB (configuration management database). Additionally, Remedy can now submitted approved change requests to Planview, which can take the request and explode it into a full-blown project plan.
Planview Enterprise 9.1 also includes 60 minor enhancements, many of which focus on usability. For instance, the new version can list more projects on the screen, and makes it easier to perform routine tasks such as managing timesheets. The new version is available now.
