PlanetWeb Inc, the embedded web browser and email software company that made its name via the Sega Saturn video game platform, gave itself an image overhaul last week, apparently in an attempt to better reflect the breadth of the company’s penetration in the internet appliance market, whatever that means. The Mountain View, California company has partnered on an OEM basis with the likes of video compression company 8X8 Inc, Zilog Inc, semiconductor company TeraLogic Inc and Nishiden Ltd in Japan and finds itself more these days gong to head to head with Spyglass Inc. Chairman and founder Kamran Elahian, who previously founded NeoMagic, Momenta Corp and Cirrus Logic Inc, secured Jan Gullet as president and CEO earlier this year, with a view to taking the company public. However a spokesperson for the company said that there are no firm plans for an IPO this year. The new image is at http://www.planetweb.com and at some angles bears an uncanny resemblance to Microsoft Corp’s Internet Explorer logo.
