PLAINTREE SHIPS WAVESWITCH ETHERNET SWITCHES

Plaintree Systems Inc, of Newton, Massachusetts, has taken a little longer than we thought getting its Waveswitch 9200 Gigabit Ethernet switches into production, but what is a few months to a company that has spent the first nine years of its life chalking up losses. As word gets round that the product is shipping, shares in the company have been rising, and Plaintree’s president and chief executive officer Bruce Walter has said that there is a reasonable expectation that the company will move into profit by the fourth quarter of fiscal 1998. The 9200, the first in a series of WaveSwitch 9000 systems, began shipping last month.
