According to recent media reports, the significance of such a merger, if it was to occur, lies in the fact that Pixar’s chief, Steve Jobs, is also chief of Apple Computer Inc. This would make him Disney’s largest individual shareholder and possibly secure him a place on its board of directors, were he would be likely to wield a great deal of influence.
Speculation is concentrating on what Apple’s cutting-edge digital technology could do to reinvent Disney content, and what creative content Disney could offer Apple’s digital music and video download service iTunes in return.
Should the rumored merger materialize it will no doubt prove a defining moment for the future of convergence media.
