Tyre-maker Pirelli SpA, already big in cables, wants to diversify its telecommunications interests and has teamed with German telephone equipment company Quante AG in a joint venture to develop worldwide integrated telecommunication systems. The new Pirelli-Quante GmbH will be 70%-owned by Pirelli and 30%-owned by Quante and will be based in Wuppertal near Dusseldorf, Germany. It will focus on integration of long-distance high-speed telecommunications network systems, and marks the entry of Pirelli Cables into systems integration of long distance networks, extending its presence on European and North American communications markets.
