Pioneer Electronic Corp announced a prototype of a 40 colour plasma display panel and plans to start marketing it sometime next fiscal. The company claims the prototype is highly luminescent and can produce a 256-level gray scale and 16.7m colours, and says it is considering investing about $40m to make the displays, making 4,000 to 5,000 units a month to start with. A 40 panel, for presentation and wall-hanging televisions, will likely cost about $4,000.
