PIONEER AND PHILIPS TEAM UP ON AFFORDABLE PDPs

Pioneer Electronics Corp and Philips Electronics NV said yesterday that they had agreed to join forces to develop plasma display panels (PDPs) that are energy efficient and economic to produce – currently they use twice as much power as TVs and can carry price tags of $8000, making them an option only for corporations. The companies said that they planned to share research costs and collaborate until January 2002.
