Pinterest is introducing a new advertisement option for small businesses to post paid pins on its board.

The self-service advertisements will allow the small businesses to pay the site on per-click basis. This means that Pinterest will get paid every time a user clicks on the paid pin.

The firm will auction the ad space next to the results of a search, or specific relevant categories.

Pinterest is running a paid test as a follow-up to the unpaid test that it undertook for six months till May this year, reported Forbes.

The firm has 30 million users and was valued at $5bn last month.

The latest revenue generating measure from Pinterest goes alongside its offerings to giant advertisers. This will put the firm in competition with Facebook, and Twitter which have begun tapping the segment of small businesses.

Earlier this week, Facebook held a gathering with its small businesses clients in New York where it promoted its new ad tools developed for the section.

Facebook said that it has 30 million small businesses having active Pages, an increase of five million from last year. One million businesses advertise on Facebook every month.
