Pinnacle Systems Inc of Mountain View, California is shipping its Windows NT based dual stream video capture card called ReelTime. The product is a video editing platform priced at $5,000 and designed to cut out the process of rendering in a non-linear editing environment. Adobe Premiere will be the first video editing application bundled with the product. ReelTime has 130 real time transitions, real time chroma, luma, linear keying and titling. The product supports the Genie RT option from Pinnacle that enables picture in picture motion and three dimensional effects. Composite, Y/C and component analog input-output interfaces are standard. Optional interfaces include CCIR 601 serial digital and DV/1394. Other features include dual stream M-JPEG compression, real time audio playback of six or more stereo channels with special effects and support for both NTSC and PAL television standards. Pinnacle recently announced financial results for the second quarter of fiscal 1998, ended December 26. Net sales were a $27.9m up from $5.3m in the second quarter of last fiscal year. Net income for the second quarter was $2.6m up from a net loss in the second quarter of fiscal 1997. Last summer Pinnacle acquired Miro Computer Products AG’s Digital Video Products Group (CI No 3,210) and during the second fiscal quarter it announced MiroVideo DV300, the first co-developed product. MiroVideo DV300 is an all-digital video editing system aimed at video enthusiasts and professionals who want to scan, capture and edit digital video data using a DV camcorder and a personal computer. Shipments will start during the third quarter of fiscal 1998. A Siemens Nixdorf led consortium sponsored by the European Union is driving the Imagine initiative aimed at providing more widespread regional online services for government administrations, businesses and individuals. Imagine, short for Integrated Multimedia Applications Generating Innovative Networks in European Digital Towns, will work to create multimedia telematic services in small European towns for the training, education and labor market as well as for virtual town halls. The primary result of the three year project will be an open system platform to showcase examples of integrated internet applications for municipal governments.
