Rhyl, North Wales-based Pinacl Products Ltd, formerly Pilkington Communication Systems Ltd until it demerged from Pilkington Plc last September, has announced the 22XX series of Ethernet micro-transceivers and converters for users wanting to connect unshielded twisted pair Ethernet local networks to other media. According to the company, the transceivers can be used to convert to fibre optic, 10Base-T or 10Base-2 as required. All three models can be directly connected to application user interfaces ports on personal computers or hubs, thus enabling a change of media, says Pinacl. The converters enable users with unshielded twisted pair hubs to provide single user connections via fibre optic or BNC cabling. Both are cost-effective because they save the user from having to provide multi-port hubs for one or two ad hoc connections via other media, says Pinacl. The fibre interface is said to comply with both FOIRL and 10Base-FL standards. All the transceivers and converters reportedly feature ‘plug and go’ simplified installation, status monitoring and fault diagnosis, which are displayed on an light emitting diode indicator. They comply with all Institute of Electrical and Engineer’s 802.3 interface requirements, according to the company. No word yet on price and availability for them.
