Picturetel Corp has launched its latest local area network-based videoconferencing products – the LiveLAN family. It comprises everything from a software-only video-audio decoder for multimedia personal computers called LiveLAN-A, through to a video-encoding board for personal computers, LiveLAN-V, to a local area network-to-videoconferencing bridge and a bandwidth management application. The products have some nice touches, including a LiveLAN-V board that constantly monitors local area network traffic and throttles back the frame rate if the network is congested.
