George Olenik has been appointed president and chief executive of Pick Systems Inc, a position that became vacant when Pick founder, Dick Pick, died (CI No 2,525). Vice-president Brian Stone has been acting head of the company since Pick’s death and there were notions of Pick’s son, Mark Pick, filling his father’s shoes. From 1970 to 1980, Olenik was executive vice-president of Microdata Inc, the first company to commercialise a Pick operating system. He then became a turnaround artist for Inco Ventures, the venture capital arm of Canada’s International Nickel Inc, handling Micro 5 Inc and later Santa Ana, California-based Alpha Microsystems Inc for which he bought Rexon Business Machines and Fujitsu Ltd’s US Pick-popping subsidiary.
