Photronics Inc, the Jupiter, Florida-based supplier of semiconductor photomasks, has agreed to acquire the internal photomask manufacturing operations of Motorola Inc, in Mesa, Arizona. It will acquire assets including advanced lithography and inspection systems from Motorola. The two companies have entered into a supplier agreement through which Photronics will supply Motorola’s photomask requirements from now on. Financial terms were not disclosed. Photronics will continue to use the Arizona facility until it can be re-located to an independent facility nearby. Motorola said it preferred to concentrate on its core business. Photomasks are the high precision photographic glass plates which contain microscopic images of electronic circuit designs for transfer onto semiconductor wafers.
