Phoenix Technologies Ltd has signed a letter of intent to sell its Printer Software Division to Xionics International Inc, the British-born company that decamped to Peabody, Massachusetts a year or three back. Under the outline agreement, Phoenix, Norwood, Massachusetts would receive a 15% stake in Xionics, notes worth about $5m and a one-time performance-based payment. The division develops and markets imaging software, under the PhoenixPage brand name, for the printer industry, and says it currently services more than 50 printer manufacturers worldwide. Phoenix is going back to its roots and wants to focus on its core personal computer BIOS, power management, PCMCIA, and Plug & Play software. The Printer Software Division says that under Xionics’ tutelage, it says will continue to develop and refine the PhoenixPage line of embedded printer emulation software and related printing, facsimile, and digital copier technologies.
