Phoenix Technology LtdÆs Pico unit, which supplies the technical underpinings to various consumer and industrial information appliances, is supplying technology to Wyse Technology Inc for its recently launched Winterm 3000 Windows CE-based thin client terminals. Wyse is taking the PicoPAL and PicoStor software from Phoenix to supplement the functionality of Windows CE 2.1. PicoPAL system software provides the fundamental programming interfaces, simplifying CE’s with MicrosoftÆs Windows Terminal Server Edition and Citrix Software IncÆs MetaFrame and WinFrame through multi-session and multi-protocol access, while PicoStor enables Windows CE based systems to support linear flash memory storage. The Pico unit, based in San Jose with its parent company, says itÆs working with a number of Windows Terminal OEMs to enhance Windows CE support in areas such as PC Card capabilities, keyboard and video subsystem components. Pico originates from PhoenixÆs 1993 acquisition of the research arm of DIP Ltd from the UK Earlier this year, the unit signed a deal to provide SGS Thomson SA with system software for future consumer information appliances, and has provided technology for cameras and camcorders from Hitachi Ltd and Casio Computer Co.
