The Philips Singapore Pte Ltd arm of Philips Electronics NV has established a new regional electronics manufacturing technology centre in Singapore, its third such centre worldwide – the other two are in the US and Europe, which will will provide marketing, consultancy, maintenance and customer demonstration and training services for the Asia-Pacific region; it also unveiled a new automatic system for assembling circuit boards, which it calls ReelMount, which does away with any handling of boards between assembly steps, drastically reducing labour requirements and investment costs in line automation; the ReelMount concept was developed with Molex Inc and Sheldahl Inc.
