Now that India is liberalising its economy and planning major investments in telecommunications, Philips Electronics NV wants to take its stake in Pieco Electronics & Electricals Pte Ltd back up to 51% from the present 39.7% and change its name back to Philips India Pte Ltd, the Financial Times reports: the company plans to set up a pilot project in New Delhi to manufacture Synchronous Digital Hierarchy equipment with the help of Philips Kommunications Industrie GmbH in Germany, and will invest some $5.3m to expand its plant in Calcutta to introduce private mobile radios and wide area pagers with the help of the company’s Philips Telecom Ltd unit in Cambridge, here in the UK.
