Meantime Philips Electronics NV said yesterday that its Media unit was launching a package that would provide access to the Internet via a television set in continental Europe, starting in the Netherlands on March 13. The offering, already described and already available on a trial basis in the UK, combines its Compact Disk-interactive player with a modem and communications software. A roll-out in the US is envisaged later in the spring. The CD-i players sell for up to about $600 and the new Internet package costs $245. It includes a modem and again uses the television as the screen. It also includes a disk of software to guide the user into an Internet session.
