PHILIPS SEES FIRST DIGITAL VIDEO DISK PLAYER IN 1997

Philips Electronics NV expects to launch its first digital video disk player to the newly-agreed standard at the beginning of 1997, and reckons it will have to sell for about $800 initially. Philips believes that the first drives to the combined standard will be designed for use as CD-ROM drives with computers, and will later be followed by players for the consumer market.
