Philips Electronics NV has awarded a contract to Cable modem manufacturer Com21 Inc, for 200,000 COMport cable modems, which will be distributed worldwide by Atlanta-based Philips Broadband Networks. Philips claims to have already installed a number of the modems worldwide, and is going to be doing the systems integration work and install its NetCaptain head-end management software. The modems will be sold into the business, small/home office and consumer markets.
