Philips Electronics NV has decided to close the Signetics production facility in Orem, Utah, by the end of 1992 and will evaluate each product family manufactured in Orem to determine where production may be continued in other Philips plants in the US, Europe or the Far East: the Orem factory is a bipolar fabrication facility, supporting a range of products from TTL to advanced high-speed programmable logic and fixed-function logic; opned in 1966, it has been a high-volume production facility for 3 and 4 wafers and employs 900 people, who will be offered trainsfers where possible and get help in finding new jobs where Philips has none.
