PHILIPS COMPONENTS TO PHASE OUT VOLUME CHIP MANUFACTURE AT SOUTHAMPTON PLANT

The venerable name of Mullard has been phased out and we must learn to call the Philips NV company Philips Components, and Philips Components has decided to phase out volume chip manufacture at its Southampton plant in a move that will cost 400 jobs: the plant is to be turned over to the design of application-specific parts, becoming Philips’ main world ASIC base.
