Eindhoven, Netherlands-based Philips Electronics NV reports that it has signed a voice-mail cross-licensing deal with Motorola Inc. No financial details were immediately available. Philips said the deal would give it access to Motorola’s full range of Flex messaging technologies, enabling it to enter the US pager market as well as extend its market share in Asia, where Flex is widely used. The deal is billed as one component of its strategy to become a leading supplier of paging subscriber units. Under the deal with Motorola, Philips Semiconductor Division will also become a supplier of integrated circuits for Motorola’s Flex technology; ReFlex is the world’s first two-way wireless system for transmitting and storing spoken and data paging messages.
