The product is designed to offload the hassle of encrypting and signing email from the client to the network, making PGP encryption virtually transparent to the end user.
PGP is a public key cryptography method generally used in email. Usually, each client is responsible for generating and publishing their public key, so that users can encrypt mail they send them. The complexity of that process has helped slow the adoption of public key infrastructure among end users in general.
The updates to the software will mean messages are scanned before they are encrypted, and incoming mail is scanned after being decrypted.
Version 1.2 of the software will also work with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server system that is used to link users of the handheld device with the corporate mail system.
