Universal is a network product that encrypts emails using key pairs stored on behalf of the end user. The idea is to make signing and encryption easier for companies by taking it out of the end user’s hands.

Now firms will be able to buy a version that scans for viruses immediately before encryption and after decryption. Administrators will centrally manage both the Symantec and PGP products with Universal.

A beta version is currently available, and PGP plans to integrate the Symantec software in version 1.2 of Universal, set to ship later this quarter. Buyers get one year of virus definitions, but will have to subscribe after that.
