The Petrotechnical Open Software Corp not-for-profit membership corporation founded by five major oil companies, is now in start-up phase in Houston, Texas, aiming to build a worldwide partnership between customers and suppliers of technical software for the oil industry. It intends to develop a software integration schema to be the common reference of the international exploration and production industry. It will set an integrated logical data model, an application programming interface, a common look and feel user front-end, and a set of test suites to certify compliance branding of vendor software. Founding sponsors are BP Exploration, Chevron, Elf Aquitaine, Mobil Exploration and Producing and Texaco.
