Milpitas, California-based Octel Communications Inc has entered the Windows personal computer-based speech and facsimile messaging and call handling market in Europe with a new four- to 16-port system aimed at small and medium-sized businesses. The product is the first to result from Octel’s acquisition last year of Sarasota, Florida-based Compass Technology Inc, and is said to incorporate standard features including automated operator, call queuing and screening, voicemail, audiotex applications, voice forms and prompt customisation. Options include facsimile processing and AMIS Audio Message Interchange Standard networking, which enables the system to interoperate with other AMIS-compliant systems. Pricing is to start from around UKP3,440 for a four-port system, and the product is to be sold in Europe through distributors. Octel says that the UK, Germany, and France will be among its early targets.
