Norwalk, Connecticut-based Perkin-Elmer Corp and the National Center for Genome Resources, Santa Fe, New Mexico, have formed an alliance to develop software systems aimed at managing large amounts of DNA information and improving the speed of the overall sequencing process. The work will enhance Perkin-Elmer’s existing DNA sequencing systems, Abi Prism, and provide the centre with access to commercial product lines. The two organisations will share the development costs. The software will be sold as part of Perkin-Elmer’s line of DNA sequencers. The systems will give users direct access to database software that is integrated with their sequencing tools, as well as to the centre’s sequence database. The National Center for Genome Resources, a not-for profit company, provides information generated by genome projects to the biotechnology and drug industries.
