Rochester, New York-based Performance Telecom Corp has won a deal from UK local exchange phone company, Kingston Communications Ltd to supply CopperAccel ADSL Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Loop technology products as part of a technical trial of Kingston’s video-on-demand service to consumers in the north east of England. Kingston began evaluating ADSL a year ago to determine if it could economically support delivery of interactive video programming over existing phone lines. It says a field trial will now be used to assess service delivery logistics, support considerations and customers’ acceptance of the proposed service. Initial installations will begin next quarter, connecting an initial 250 homes with the trial to be launched in September. Video Networks Ltd of London, developer of interactive on-line video services and systems, is co-ordinating the provision of the content, video server and set top units to be used in the trial.
