PERFORMANCE SEMICONDUCTOR HAS FAST VERSION OF MIPS RISC

Performance Semiconductor Corp, Sunnyvale, California has upped the ante in the RISC stakes with launch of the PaceMIPS R3000 version of the MIPS Computer Systems Inc part. The CPU is rated at sustained performance in excess of 20 MIPS and 7 MFLOPS single-precision, 4 MFLOPS double precision with floating point co-processor. The set is available in three versions with sustained 12 MIPS, 16 MIPS and 20 MIPS. The 100-up price for the 20 MIPS 7 MFLOPS PaceMIPS R3000 CPU and PaceMIPS R3010 floating point chip, are $895 each for June delivery. The CMOS parts have 0.8 micron effective gate lengths.
