Nor did it comment on whether his departure was linked to the sacking of CEO Craig Conway earlier this month after a loss of confidence in Conway’s ability to lead the company.
Gupta joined Pleasanton, California-based PeopleSoft in 2000. His immediate replacement is Stan Swete, a PeopleSoft veteran who has come out of retirement.
PeopleSoft continues to fend off a $7.7 billion hostile takeover bid from rival Oracle Corp.
A US court recently gave the go-ahead for the bid to proceed after throwing out an appeal on anti-trust grounds.
