Gaithersburg, Maryland-headquartered Penril Datability Networks has announced three additions to its BRX range of bridge-routers, all based on Advanced Micro Devices Inc’s Am29000 series of RISC. The BRX5711 is a stand-alone bridge-router incorporating one Ethernet port and one 7Mbps serial wide area network port, while the BRX5712 adds a second 7Mbps port, and the BRX5722 features two Ethernet and two 7Mbps wide area network ports. All three support concurrent multiprotocol bridging and routing, with Flash program memory for local or remote network download, dial back-up and AUI-based Simple Network Management Protocol support, said the company. In addition, all the 5700 series include the company’s Constellation software that is capable of routing TCP/IP, Novell SPX/IPX, Xerox XNS, DECnet Phase V and AppleTalk. Constellation-equipped 5700s include support for a selection of routing protocols including Route Information Protocol, RIP, Open Shortest Path First, OSPF, which is set to overtake RIP, HELLO, another Internet protocol, and Exterior Gateway Protocol, and support the DEC and 802.1d Spanning Tree protocols, said Penril. On the wide area side, the software also includes Frame Relay, X.25, HDLC and Peer-to-Peer Protocol. As to traffic capabilities, Penril said all the 5700 series process traffic at 38,000 packets per second, which is forwarded on the local area network side at 14,880pps. wide area network traffic can be forwarded at up to 13.7Mbps simultaneously. The offerings also incorporate Simple Network Management Protocol Management Information Base II and Telnet support, enabling access remotely or locally via an async terminal. Password protection is provided with two levels of user privileges. Delivered with either 10Ba se-5 or with both 10Base-2 and 10Base-T local area network Ethernet connections with auto-sensing, the wide area network interfaces are switch-selectable between V.35 and non-V.35, with RS-232, RS-530 and RS-449 support. All are out now but the company gave no prices.
