Pegasus Group Plc, the UK financial software company, has to work hard to prosper in a market dominated by Sage Group Plc, and it has beefed up its Capital Gold accounting package, which is aimed at small to medium-sized enterprises. Version 2 has bill of materials and job costings modules and the 32-bit Year 2000 compliant package is Microsoft Office compatible so that information can be easily transferred into Word or Excel if necessary. Pegasus has strong support among accountants and the academic community and it increased revenues by 33% to 7.4 million pounds in the six month to June 30 (CI No 3,483). Pre-tax profit, however, fell 13% to 632,000 pounds partly as a result of the cost of developing new software. Next month Pegasus will launch its new 32-bit modular software package, called Mpower, designed to appeal to larger clients.
