The launch of Intel Corp’s 600MHz Pentium III processor yesterday, saw the usual crowd of PC, server and workstation vendors announcing systems based on the chip. Vendors ready with new systems included Compaq Computer Corp, Hewlett-Packard Co and Data General Corp. And Intel has clearly overcome at least some of its differences with Intergraph Computer Systems, as the Huntsville, Alabama-based workstation vendor is shipping a new box based on the 600MHz component.

Compaq – the number one PC vendor in the world – has new PCs and workstations based on the chip. The DeskPro EN series Pentium III 600MHz PC, starts at $2,239 and is available now. It is also offering single and dual processor in the AP200 and AP400 range, priced from $2,671 and shipping immediately. Compaq is also offering Presario, EN and EP models based on the newly released 500MHz Intel Celeron processor. These start at $1,009 and are also available now.

HP has added a P600 model to its Visualize NT workstation family and cut prices by up to 13% across the range. The entry-level price for the P600 is $3,300. 600MHz Pentium IIIs will also be available in HP’s Netserver LPr systems, Kayak workstations and Vectra and Pavilion desktops. Data General has added Pentium III systems to its server line, offering AviiON AV 2300 and 2700R departmental servers with single or dual processor configurations.

Intergraph is offering its TDZ 2000 GL2 Vizual workstation and Interserve 90 workgroup server with the new Pentium. Separately, the company is planning to announce the first major revision of its Wildcat 3D graphics accelerator at Siggraph next week.
