PC MARKET BUOYANT SAY ANALYSTS

By CBR Staff Writer

Credit Suisse First Boston analysts believe the PC market will have grown 15.4% through the end of this year and says demand for PC components is strong, growing some 18%, even if revenue is soft. They say Dell Computer Corp is making significant inroads into the PC server market. They expect it to net between 10% and 13% of the market this year, up from 6% in 1997. However Dell, unlike Compaq Computer Corp, is beholden to Intel’s server designs. Windows NT 5 they say is still on course for delivery by mid-1999 but it will make no contribution to Microsoft Corp’s fiscal 1999 revenue.
