Malaysian PC manufacturer PC Malaysia Bhd is to launch an aggressive export drive for its own brandnamed computers and has announced plans to set up 52 international marketing centers over the next three years. It has already opened the first three in the UK, South Africa and the Philippines.

Established earlier this year following an appeal from the government for more locally-produced computers, PC Malaysia will go into production of 10,000 computers a month before Christmas and will increase this to 30,000 a month during the course of next year.

Initially it will be using 40% to 50% locally-made components but expects to increase this to 80% by 2001, according to executive director Ashikin Zakaria. The company will build a second plant to produce major components she said. Our strategy is to focus on the export market and the opening of more centers overseas, she said.
