PC CLONEMAKERS TO PAY 5% PATENT LICENCES TO IBM

While the idea of paying IBM patent licences for clones of the Personal Computer sold over the past four years fills many manufacturers with anguish, we hear that several of the Taiwanese clonemakers have been quietly paying IBM licence fees at 1% of their revenue on the things for years – and are less than complaisant at the idea of having to raise the payout to as much as 5% on machines sold after April 1.
