PC shipment to decrease 7.8% in 2013

PC shipment is expected to decrease 11.7% in the second quarter of 2013.

By CBR Staff Writer

PC shipment will decline 7.8% for the complete 2013, following a 13.3% decline in the first quarter of 2013 and 4% decline in 2012, a report from International Data Corporation (IDC) has revealed.

According to the report, worldwide PC shipment is expected to experience 11.7% drop in the second quarter of 2013, 4.7% decline in the third quarter, and 1.6% in the fourth quarter.

IDC, PC Shipment

The PC shipment reported slow growth in leading countries during May, while it increased slightly during April compared to March in Latin America and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), while the growth was reported to be slower except in India and the UK.

IDC Worldwide PC Trackers Program vice president Loren Loverde said that the expectation for the second quarter was not all that high, showing only minor improvement from the first quarter.

"But the May results reflect deteriorating conditions rather than improvement and the market will probably fall short of projections," Loverde said.

"We still expect an improvement in the second half of the year as more new products are launched and we get into the back-to-school and holiday seasons. But the market will likely remain cautious about the second half of 2013."
