The servers are part of a Harris services that will be rolled out at three PBS facilities: its Media Operations Center, Network Operations Center; and Disaster Recovery Site.

According to Harris, the Nexio server will be part of a combined HD and SD multichannel deployment similar to the SD multichannel configuration that currently serves PBS stations. In the event of a major system failure at PBS headquarters, all national programming would originate from the Disaster Recovery Site.

Jerry Butler, senior director of interconnection projects at Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), said: The Harris Nexio server fit our requirements, it enables back-to-back playout of multiple formats on every channel, is able to encompass new HD codecs the moment they become available, and allows us to migrate between SD and HD for our playout requirements without the need for auxiliary devices.
