Not content with outraging his fifty-something fans with a sortie into the world heavy metal, aging US pop star and Jesus Movement acolyte Pat Boone has signed up for the Year 2000 National Education Taskforce (Y2KNET), an outfit formed to raise public awareness about the dreaded millennium bug. Boone, who once wowed teenyboppers with his rendition of such favorites as ‘Speedy Gonzalez’, ‘Love Letters in the Sand’ and a version of the Little Richard classic ‘Tutti Frutti’, says he wants to raise consciousness rather than sow panic. Rumors that he has closed a deal for his vintage albums to be playing in all those elevators that stop when we hit 01/01/00 have no foundation.
