A civil court in Paris has ruled in favour of film and television producers’ unions by ordering the search engines and internet service providers (ISPs) to block sixteen websites that allegedly telecasted copyrighted content.
The latest ruling comes after the unions appealed the court in 2011, after their requests to block allostreaming.com, allomovies.com and others sites were not paid attention by Internet providers, such as Orange and Vivendi’s SFR and search engines including Google and Yahoo.
Citing court ruling, Reuters reported that the Allostreaming network of websites completely or almost completely streamed audiovisual works without seeking consent from their developers while also breached French intellectual property laws.
The court also ruled that the search engines or broadband providers should not have to pay any amount for blocking the site, while it was not clear about exactly how the work should be executed by the firms.
However, some of the defendants argued that blocking the illegal streaming websites was impractical as users post only mirror versions of the sites under different names and use forums to communicate locations of illegally copied content.
