The handful of massively parallel processing exhibitors we canvassed at last month’s National Retail Federation show in New York each said they expect to do a lot of business on Informix Software Inc’s forthcoming OnLine Extended Parallel Server 8.0 – OnLine XPS – database, which is apparently re-designed from the ground up to support large-scale data warehousing sites. Most agreed that the biggest drag on the warehousing market has been Oracle Corp’s inability to support large amounts of data. The show, cooped up in The New York Hilton – which features Cable News Network monitors in the lifts – and the Sheraton round the corner, plans to move to larger premises in the Jacob Javits Center for 1997.
