Paperback Software International, Berkeley, California says sales in 1987 rose 32% to $4.5m but that Even though revenues increased in 1987, the company was affected by an apparent industry-wide trend of soft sales in the fourth quarter: founder Adam Osborne reckons this was down to lack of consumer confidence in the economy, confusion regarding the impact of the release of OS/2 from IBM on application software, and a sharp rise in competition in major product categories in the latter half of the year; as a result, the company is expecting to report a loss for the year.
