Panasonic releases new handheld tablet computer

Features 10.4-inch dual-touch display with touchscreen functionality and 1.86GHz Intel Atom processor

Panasonic Computer has unveiled new Toughbook H1 Field, a handheld tablet computer that enables mobility and productivity for field sales personnel, first responders, supervisors, inspectors, maintenance workers and mobile professionals.

Kyp Walls, director of product management at Panasonic Computer, said: “The Toughbook H1 Field was designed based on extensive customer input to ensure it had the right mix of form factor, features and durability to maximise worker productivity and value.

“With so many features that exceed the performance capabilities of competitive products, we believe the Toughbook H1 Field is best positioned to meet the computing needs of highly mobile workers, along with their IT administrators.”

According to Panasonic, the Toughbook H1 Field features optional SmartCard, RFID and barcode readers, camera, GPS, 1.86GHz Intel Atom processor, 500nit and 10.4-inch dual-touch display with tablet and touchscreen functionality.

In addition, new device features 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, bluetooth 2.1, fingerprint reader, 2GB of RAM and a 64GB reinforced flex-connect solid state drive. It offers six hours of battery life with twin hot-swappable batteries.

The Toughbook H1 Field weighs around 3.4 lbs and comes with Qualcomm’s new Gobi2000 mobile broadband technology and equips accessories such as carrying cases, shoulder straps, charging devices and Toughbook tested vehicle mounting offerings.

The Panasonic Toughbook H1 Field is expected to be available in March 2010, at an estimated street price of $3,379 from authorised Panasonic resellers and distributors.
