PanAmSat Corp, maverick Greenwich, Connectcut satellite operator set up to ensure that there would be satellite capacity for the Spanish-language television services with which its founder was involved, says it has engaged Morgan Stanley & Co Inc to explore financial alternatives for the company, including its sale, now that the over-riding objective of the founder has been met. PanAmSat is the world’s only private-sector global satellite operator, providing satellite-based broadcast and business communications services to more than 300 customers worldwide. It currently operates four satellites – PAS-1 and PAS-3 serving the Atlantic Ocean Region; PAS-2 serving the Pacific Ocean Region; and PAS-4 serving the Indian Ocean Region. It expects to launch four additional satellites by early 1998, which will enable it to operate at least two birds in each ocean region.
