The Treo 700wx runs Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket and boasts 64MB of RAM, which is double its predecessor, the 700w released through Verizon in January.

The 700wx also can be used as a wireless modem for notebooks by connecting to Sprint’s EvDO high-speed network via USB.

But many of its features are the same as the 700w, including Windows Mobile Messaging and Security Feature Pack, expansion-card slot and Bluetooth.

For the most part, however, the 700wx enables Sunnyvale, California-based Palm to sell to users of Sprint’s network for the first time.

The new smartphone retails at $499.
