Paetec Holding, a provider of data, voice, and internet offerings, has opened a new data centre in Houston, Texas.

Paetec said that the new data centre will help customers maintain and protect their critical data, server operating applications, network, and communications assets.

The Houston data centre will also offer traditional services including cabinets, power and space and also a suite of network-based services.

The data centre has connections to a diverse OC-48 SONET ring, and is backed up by a one-megawatt generator with around 1,550 gallons of diesel fuel.

In addition to serving Houston, the company plans to increase capacity out of the site, and offer additional high bandwidth services to San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas by the end of the year.

Paetec chairman and CEO Arunas Chesonis said that further expansion of the company’s data centre capabilities is a reflection of its commitment to customers’ needs and towards supporting cloud computing.

"Over the next five years, we will continue to strategically drive this expansion in order to support customers nationwide that have a need for geographic redundancy and reduced latency," Chesonis said.
