PacTel Corp, soon to be spun off from Pacific Telesis Group Inc, plans to buy a 4.5% interest in a new company being formed to apply for a cellular licence in the Kyushu and Okinawa regions of Japan: the company, Digital TU-KA Kyushu Co, plans to build a digital cellular system that will reach about 70% of Kyushu’s population when it opens in 1996; other major partners are Japan Telecom Ltd, 22.855%, Nissan Motor Co, 22.855%, Hitachi Ltd, 5.5%, Kyushu Railway Co, 5.5%, Nishi-Nippon Railroad Co, 5.25%, Nippon Steel Corp, 5%, Toyota Motor Corp, 5%, and GTE Corp, 4.25%.
