We are very excited to be associated with PacketAir Networks, who realizes that packet-based networks utilizing IP are seen as the future for both wireline and wireless networks, said Dr N. Darius Sankey, partner, Zone Ventures, the Southern California affiliate of Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurveston, who contributed to PacketAir’s series A round funding earlier this year, in a statement to the press. PacketAir’s executive and development team members have extensive wireless and data networking knowledge along with experience designing and delivering complex products for the cellular carrier market. We are confident PacketAir has both the talent and vision to make significant advancements in the wireless industry.

For private and public access networks based on either microcell or macrocell radio technology, PacketAir delivers IP-based voice and data over existing infrastructure, allowing network operators and enterprise CIOs to deploy a complete wireless IP network with high-performance handoff and roaming, multi-tier security authorization, service qualification, usage tracking and call detail record generation. These services can be provided within a single wireless network or transparently maintained as the user moves between neighboring networks, or even between different types of radio access technologies (called vertical handoff). PacketAir says its solution is fully interoperable with other mobility management schemes such as Mobile-IP and GPRS, allowing their customers to provide high-performance, differentiated service to their end-users while also supporting roaming agreements with other carriers.
